DUENDE was established in 2010 with the production of “The Shattering Man” - a highly skilled piece of ensemble physical theatre.
In 2011 DUENDE produced ‘Echo Chamber’ - a solo performance by Artistic Director, John Britton. ‘Echo Chamber” had a short season in Yorkshire in October/November 2011, will have some performances in Australia in January 2012 and will then be available for further touring..
In 2012, DUENDE is launching ‘Collision’ - a major four-year series of performances at the meeting point of structure and improvisation.
Though DUENDE is a relatively young company, it emerges from a strong background. Artistic Director John Britton has a significant history as a director and performer, both of his own work and the work of others. He has a significant reputation as an international teacher of ensemble and improvisation, and is known internationally as a solo improvising performer. In 2013 the first significant book on Ensemble, designed for students, researchers and practitioners, will be published in the UK & US by Methuen/Bloomsbury, with John Britton as editor and lead author.
John Britton is joined in DUENDE by three Associate Directors: Eva Tsourou (Greece), Aliki Dourmazer (Greece), Eilon Morris (Australia/Israel/UK).
DUENDE also has six performers as ‘Associated Artists’.
DUENDE creates a new ensemble for each new project, but the heart of each ensemble is drawn from these nine artists.
